What a home solar system costs in Switzerland in 2025
The federal price study analysed 1,686 systems. A typical 13.4 kW home system comes to about CHF 27,000 before VAT, and prices are steady going into 2026.
Every year, EnergieSchweiz publishes a price study based on real offers and invoices from Swiss installers. The 2025 edition analysed 1,686 systems, 1,598 of them on rooftops. It is the most useful benchmark there is for pricing a home system.
A reference price for any size
The study gives a formula for the typical cost of a rooftop system, before VAT. For home sizes it works out like this:
| System size | Typical cost, before VAT |
|---|---|
| 8 kW | about CHF 18,300 |
| 10 kW | about CHF 21,600 |
| 13.4 kW (2025 average home) | about CHF 27,100 |
| 15 kW | about CHF 29,700 |
| 20 kW | about CHF 37,800 |
The formula: cost = 1,628 × kW + 5,278 for smaller systems (it switches to 681 × kW + 76,265 above about 75 kW). Each project still varies with the roof, the electrical connection and access.
Prices are lower and steady
- Prices in 2025 were 4 to 9% lower than in 2024, depending on size. Small systems of 2 to 10 kW saw the biggest change, at 9%.
- Most size classes are now below their 2020 level.
- Module prices settled at about CHF 100 per kW through 2025, down from CHF 350 at the end of 2022.
- Offers in the second half of 2025 matched the first half, which points to stable prices in 2026.
Where the money goes
For systems under 100 kW, labour is the largest share of the cost. Modules make up about 10% of a small system and close to 28% of a large one. Site safety falls from about 14% to 6% as systems grow. If a home needs a new distribution board or supply cable, electrical work can reach up to 30% of the budget.
Batteries
The study also gives a formula for batteries installed with a new system: cost = 432 × kWh + 2,122, before VAT.
| Battery size | Typical cost, before VAT |
|---|---|
| 5 kWh | about CHF 4,300 |
| 10 kWh | about CHF 6,400 |
| 15 kWh | about CHF 8,600 |
How installers can use this
- Show the benchmark. Homeowners trust an offer more when they can see where it sits against the federal reference.
- Explain the extras. Roof type, a new distribution board or scaffolding are good reasons for a price above the line. Say so in the offer.
- Quote the battery separately. A clear second line makes the decision easier.
